On Thursday May 8th international celebrity Alison Larkin will make a guest appearance at the Farmington Library to promote her new book The English American. The book is based on Larkin’s own life – as a comedian, actress, author and adoptee. Born to American parents, Larkin was adopted at birth by British parents, and raised in England and Africa. The English American is an entertaining and heartfelt exploration of nature vs. nurture and how we come to find our identities – both personal and national – from where we’ve been and where we choose to go.
Most recently, The English American has been nominated as Redbook Magazine’s “Book of the Month” and as Vogue Magazine’s “most powerful book of the season”. Alison Larkin has appeared on Late Night with Conan O’Brian. Her book has also received rave reviews in USA Today, The New York Times, UK Today.
Alison Larkin is author, actress and comedian. She is a regular on the British stage, with many appearances on Broadway. She is a stand-up comic at the Comic Strip and the Boston Comedy Club in Greenwich Village, NY. She is a ubiquitous voice-over artist (her unusually wide range of voices can be heard in cartoons, movies, and commercials) Alison has worked in Hollywood for Jim Henson Productions, ABC Television, Fox TV Studios, and CBS. She was voted as one of LA’s funniest women.
Alison Larkin’s guest appearance at the Farmington Library is co-sponsored by the Adoption Center at the Family and Children’s Agency. The adoption center is one of the largest private adoption agencies in Connecticut, with offices in Norwalk, Hartford, and New York. Alison Larkin has regularly partnered with adoption agencies (in the UK and the USA) to promote her book and to raise aid and awareness for family-focused education on adoption issues.
This free library event will feature refreshments, a book signing, and Q & A. Alison Larkin will also give an entertaining reading from her book. More information on Alison Larkin – including a complete press kit - can be obtained at her website: www.alisonlarkin.com
For more information on this program, contact Hal Bright, Head of Adult/Information Services at: (860) 673-6791. Advance registration is required for this program. Its filled with voice-of- experience tips for curbing appetite, no-nonsense shortcuts for getting food on the table pronto, and recipes that could only have been developed by this food-loving pro… no compromises, no wasted steps, just extraordinary results from ordinary ingredients.
